Gardens

StobhallWoodland Garden

The den which falls away from the courtyard was planted with many rhododendrons and acers by Lord and Lady Perth from the 1950’s. The rhododendrons are beautiful in the late spring, but the autumn colouring afforded by the acers is more spectacular, delivering a refreshing blast of colour at the end of October. You can walk down past the Library towards the river, after 100 yards there is a fork to the left which takes you below the house in the den, across the burn and up the other side from where you can return by the larger bridge. If you turn right at the first fork you descend to the river. The woodland paths are quite steep: stout shoes and some puff required!

Shell Garden

The Shell Garden is situated between the Folly and the stable block. It houses the greenhouse and the vegetable and cut flower gardens. Sadly the greenhouse was destroyed in January 2005 by the top half of the large cedar tree above detaching itself and landing on the greenhouse. The greenhouse is being replaced and will be completed by autumn 2007. The rest of the garden looks somewhat untidy at present as it is work in progress: it should all look perfect by summer 2008.
